Alpharetta, a Fulton county city of approximately 43,500 and 23 square miles (2006 Census/US Census Bureau), is located 14 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia. It was founded as a trading post for American Indians and settlers, and 150 years later, it is celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary and growing bigger and better than ever. In fact, it’s one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia – the population between 1990 and 2000 exploded 168% (compared to the state rate of 26%)!
Alpharetta is known for a thriving Arts community, most recently punctuated by the May 2008 opening of the 12,000 seat Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, the winding trails through the verdant Georgia foothills (the Big Creek Greenway is a peaceful path that must be seen to be believed), a cozy and welcoming historic downtown, and the convenient close proximity to Atlanta.
The new Amphitheatre is home to the Grammy-award winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and often hosts large touring acts and famous musicians. The Big Creek Greenway stretches over 6 miles, and is perfect for running, rollerblading, biking, or simply strolling along, reveling in the fresh air. Downtown Alpharetta boasts quaint antique shops, local boutiques, and the charm of days gone by. Atlanta, the cultural capital of the South and the state capital, boasts a wide variety of activities, sights and sounds, fantastic dining, and a multitude of resources.
Citizens of Alpharetta enjoy a comfortable, relaxed lifestyle in a midsized-city. They can participate in local sports, shine onstage at a community theatre, play with their canine pals at the dog park, or shop at the wonderful Main Street Market on the third weekend of every month (March – October).
If you’re looking to make your home in a beautiful city in the Atlanta metro-area, look no further than Alpharetta! The Alpharetta Welcome Center is waiting to hear from you.
